Engagement of Ann & Roger, 21 May 09

Sunday, May 24th, 2009
I met up with Ann + Roger at Roger’s grandparents house for their engagement shoot. We took a few photos in the backyard where there was some nice landscaping, then headed over to Roger’s parent’s farm where Roger grew up (and where the wedding will be).

While on the way over, following them, I thought that I could do some shots of them on Roger’s car.. that’s how I roll of course… and I am glad I did. Feast your eyes kids on these photos:

Wanted a classic polaroid-esqe look:

I laid in dried poo for this… (well not really, but I could have!)

Good lord, I really, really like this lens, reducing the background to just shapes:

And for my personal favorite for the day, for sentimental reasons:This image is copyrighted by the owner
This photo really caught me on an emotional level.. not so much for the image itself, but for the genuineness of the moment. Roger was talking to his future wife about his brothers shooting hoops (while wearing farm boots). The court was behind their heads in this composition.

Knowing that I witnessed this little moment where he just shared with a soon-to-be-family member some ordinary, every-day memory of his brothers was special. And the simple, easy affection they had (I was futzing with the flash on the stand right behind them, and they were just naturally hanging out that way) just adds to the whole genuineness of the moment. I also connect to this moment from a parental point of view, as I hope my now 16-month old son and his twin 2-month old brothers have a moment like this 20-25-30 years down the road.

Thanks Ann + Roger for a successful shoot. I look forward to your wedding.

My 3rd and final senior session from this batch, I present to you Annie’s photos. Annie connected me with both Lindsay and Emily, so Thank you to Annie for doing so. I am pleased with how her photos came out as well.. Lindsay was an excellent assistant for me.

We had a little fun goofin around with a traffic cone opportunistically sitting there:

Thank you again Annie for a great session.. enjoy the photos!
